Taxing the rich will not fix the problem, we have to stop spending nearly twice our income. Here is our current income/spending for one year...

• U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
• Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
• New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
• National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
• Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let's now remove eight zeros and pretend it's a household budget for one year so its easier to understand…

• Annual family income: $21,700
• Money the family spent: $38,200
• New debt on the credit card: $16,500
• Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
• Total budget cuts: $385

One of my recent quotes that I repeat almost daily is, "Life is 20% of what you are given, and 80% of what you make of it." I had a life changing injury two years ago, but I am moving forward, "full speed ahead!"

I saw this quote today in an investment article, and it mirrors the quote above.

In this WSJ article, Steve Jobs' commencement speech at Stanford six years prior, speaks of his quest for adventure. It concludes with a quote from, "The Whole Earth Catalog" of the 60's, "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish."

I just discovered this saying today, but it is a strong message that I like and will pass to the people around me!

While outside walking today I felt that I was in the land of "Tommy". You remember the Who's rock opera. When encountering other walkers, runners and bikers I found that they were plugged, just like Tommy. Eyes straight ahead, like they couldn't see, ears plugged with what ever device they had and their mouths seemed plugged too when there was no response to a "good morning" or "hello". This has not been the first time I have encountered this behavior, but this morning it just hit me strong. Maybe it is because I have just spent the past week in isolation for a medical treatment, who knows! All I can think of is the self imposed isolation these people are inflicting upon themselves. Then Tommy comes back into my thoughts, the extreme joy he experienced when he was again able to experienced the sights and sounds of the world and people around him. This morning, the people I encountered were missing a friendly smile, the cicada, birds, streams and the chance to make another smile. But who knows, maybe they were listening to the opera "Tommy" on their I-pods!

I am proud to have been behind this great program. I traveled to watch two launches, one was postponed and missed. The program had it's tragedies but is a great American accomplishment!
